Hey there. I don't have a Tegu and probably won't for a while, but I was wondering, Can they eat pork or any other part of the pig as a staple? Also, what is your opinion on cages 6x3x3? Could you keep a tegu there their whole life, comfotably?

A Tegu will eat just about anything we do. I think pork once in a while will not hurt one but the staple of a Tegu is ground turkey, ground beef, rodents, veggies. My guys are meat eaters but also love strawberry yogurt that has calcium in it. When feeding them rodents I do not feed them live ones. They can become habitat aggressive. The habitat you have 6' long x 3' wide x 3' tall is big enough but you need to get them within 18" minimum from the UVB light. A false bottom of plywood firmly supported will do the job and you can get creative with it. If you like I can send you some concepts that are cheap and easy to build. My Tegus are allowed to leave thier habitat and roam. To them a habitat is home base. I have two Boston Terriers and three cats that get along with them fine. The cage has to be clear plexiglass not wire, they can get thru chicken wire like it wasn't even there.
